What We Collect

• Account: name, email, grade, optional teacher code.
• Subscriptions: plan type/status via Apple In‑App Purchases/RevenueCat (we do not store card details).
• Reading data: voice recordings of read passages and derived metrics (e.g., accuracy, fluency, pace, error types).
• Device/usage: app events, device model/OS, crash/diagnostics, general analytics.
• Identifiers: Firebase user ID and similar identifiers used to operate the service.

How We Use Data

• Provide core features: reading assessment, feedback, progress tracking.
• Improve our reading models and algorithms (de‑identified/aggregated where possible).
• Manage accounts and subscriptions.
• Analytics, troubleshooting, security, and legal compliance.

Legal Bases

• Contract performance (to deliver the service).
• Legitimate interests (improve quality/safety).
• Consent (especially for minors’ audio/voice data where required).

Children’s Privacy

• Primary users are children in Grades 1–5. We comply with applicable laws (e.g., POPIA and, where applicable, COPPA/Play Families).
• We obtain verifiable parental/guardian or school-based consent before collecting/storing a child’s voice recordings.
• Parents/guardians may request access, correction, deletion, or withdrawal of consent via support@lexistudent.co.za.

Sharing and Processors

• Firebase (Auth/Firestore) for authentication and data storage.
• Apple and/or RevenueCat for subscription status via In‑App Purchases.
• Crash/diagnostic analytics providers.
• Processors act on our behalf; we do not sell personal data or use third‑party behavioral ads.

International Transfers

Data may be processed outside South Africa with appropriate safeguards.

Data Retention

• Account data: retained while the account is active.
• Voice recordings/metrics: retained to provide the service and to improve algorithms; deleted upon verifiable parent/guardian request or account deletion, subject to legal obligations.
• Backups/logs: retained for a limited period for security/continuity.

Your Rights

Security

We use technical and organizational safeguards; no method is 100% secure.

Changes

We may update this policy. Continued use after changes indicates acceptance.

Disclosures for App Stores

• We collect contact info, identifiers, user content (audio), usage, and diagnostics for app functionality and analytics.
• No third‑party behavioral advertising; no cross‑app tracking.
